Dallas County reports second swine flu death

A 37-year-old Garland resident with an underlying medical condition has died from the swine flu, becoming the second death in Dallas County from the virus, local health officials said today. The man, who died Aug. 29, had underlying health issues, said Dallas County and city of Garland health officials.

Health officials also said they have confirmed Dallas County’s first case of the swine flu resisting the anti-viral drug Tamiflu. Only seven cases of Tamiflu resistance have been reported in the U.S.

Dallas County’s first death associated with swine flu, also known as the H1N1 virus, was reported last week, when a 52-year-old woman, also with underlying medical issues, died.
